Our Peat-Free Expert, Kate the Garden Guru shares top tips for gardening…

Updates from Avalon Farm
Following a period of continued growth, Durston Garden Products has taken steps to ensure the ongoing longevity of its growing media offering with two significant investments in machinery.
These two latest investments have been put in place to, not just improve product production rates, but to also ensure that Durstons products are of the highest possible quality, helping to further cement its position as a true stalwart of the industry.
Adding additional bagging machinery to its Somerset-based production facility has enabled the team to effectively double its production capacity; in turn, helping Durstons to better manage stock holding ahead of the 2022 season. This additional machinery can fulfil the filling, packaging and palletisation of an additional 20 bags of its market-leading growing media offering every minute.
To date, Durstons has accrued stock holding in excess of 40% of anticipated stock requirements for 2022, supported by its dedicated logistics team to ensure delivery can be made to any of its UK-based customers within as little as five days.
Representative of Durstons’ largest investment in recent years, is the introduction of two new state-of-the-art Komptech screens. These machines utilise different-sized screen holes that effectively sieve the peat-free material to ensure that only the optimum particle size passes through and is bagged. As a result, retailers can rest assured that every bag will be free of any oversized material that may have previously been present.
“The feedback from our retail customers is vitally important to us, so when there are issues or concerns, we will always look for solutions and the investment of our new screens is demonstrative of this. For us, quality is key, as it not only delivers results for the end users, but it can also drive customer loyalty. By improving the quality of our peat-free offering, thanks to the expert screening tools, we believe we have created an offering that stands apart in the growing media category.”
